A Season to Anticipate

Posted on 04/24/2025 | Taylor Williams

The DC girls lacrosse team is off to a positive start, with a competitive 2-5 start. The “committed” team, as senior Ella Irias describes, is working towards getting to districts and beating some rival teams.

The team's commitment has been demonstrated in their early-season contests, starting with a strong performance against Coventry Christian Academy, despite a 10-8 opening-game loss. Even so, the team quickly redeemed itself, beating Friends Central the very next day, 11-10, resulting in the first win of their season. This win was quickly followed by a second victory two days later against Cardinal O’Hara High School, a 15-4 win that highlighted several dazzling goals.

This impressive winning streak was unfortunately cut short against Upper Moreland a week later in a 13-3 loss. Afterwards, the team put up a good fight against Dock Mennonite but came up short, 14-7. Just six days later, the team found themselves in a close game against Merion-Mercy Academy, falling by just one goal, 11-10. They followed this with a tough loss against Sun Valley, suffering a 15-3 defeat.

Even with the highs and lows of the season, the team remains steadfast and determined to finish strong. As senior Addy Smith notes, “This is a building year; our goal is to help all the new athletes to get better and grow.”

The growth that the team is hoping for is sure to be met with the help of a new coach, Mrs.Shannon Schreiber. No stranger to the program, Coach Shreiber is married to DC’s former head coach, Mr. Mark Schreiber. During prior seasons, Coach Schreiber offered her support and advice to her husband during games and practices. The first-year head coach is ably assisted by Mrs. Terry Corson.

As the girls improve and build on their successes, their aim remains making a trip to districts. As junior captain Lily Peters states, “Everybody is so eager to learn.” With this determined attitude, the team hopes to find success throughout the rest of the season.
