Swinging Into the Season

One of the many pursuits that Delaware County Christian School prides itself on is its remarkable athletics. After several difficult years, the softball team posted a respectable 8–11 record in 2024; in fact, the team even went on a 5-game winning streak at one point. However, the squad is determined to make even greater strides this year under the leadership of second-year head coach Nathan Shackleton and a new assistant coach, Laura Couchara.
Sophomore Kathryn Certo, who pitches and plays first base, earned the lowest earned run average on the team last year. Kathryn, also a captain this year, remarks that the team has a “big responsibility and has great team spirit”; however, they need to “improve on throwing accuracy and willingness and flexibility to play many positions.”
Regardless of results, softball is more than just a sport to many, as it brings people together. Sophomore Juliet Jackson expresses how important softball is to her and her family: “Softball brought me closer to my sister and helped me make new friends.” Senior Abigail Gifford agrees, explaining, “The environment of the team is always welcoming and ready to enjoy each other's company, while working hard to get better as a team.”
Thus far, the team has compiled a 1-5 record, including an exciting 26-10 win over Antietam; however, the team has suffered non-league losses.
